Pegasus Mail and related programs

Pegasus Mail
Free email program from David Harris. Powerful and good. Only the manuals cost. Avoid bowing to Outlook Express.

MS Office Macros for Pegasus Mail
A set of macros for MS Word and Excel to integrate Pegasus Mail with MS Office. I've tested them quite thoroughly with Office 2000 and 2002, but they should work with other versions. Please let me know of any problems. More info

sendtopegasus.gif (1187 bytes) Send to Pegasus
Another approach to enable sending documents to Pegasus Mail from Word and Excel. Pretty neat.

pm3.gif (1221 bytes) Lexacorp Utilities for Pegasus
Various free utilities for Pegasus Mail including Address Finder, Expand Distribution List, Mailbox Warning, MAPISend.

QDPGP Encryption for Pegasus Mail
Quick'n'Dirty PGP Encryption for Pegasus Mail. You will need to download both QDPGP and PGP itself. There is a link to PGP (freeware version available) from the QDPGP page.

Mercury
Mail gateway, a companion to Pegasus. I use this to manage all the mail for our domain. If this is what you want, then this is what you want.

Other Mail programs

Eudora
Fully featured email program, Eudora has everything you need with the feel of an expensive retail application.
Available in Sponsored mode (full with small ad window), In Paid mode (full), and Light mode (fewer features).

Anti-spam

K9
Bayesian (Artificial Intelligence) spam filtering for Windows-based POP mail. Learns to identify spam based on the mail you receive. It flags the offending email so it can be filtered by your email client to delete or move to a "spam" folder for review. After initial training with only 20 or so spams, it is incredibly accurate. I'll say that again. It is incredibly accurate.

Popfile
Cross-platform Bayesian filtering for POP mail. Like K9, but more general and will filter into as many different buckets as you choose. It, too, is incredibly accurate.

SpamWeasel
Downloads your mail, filters it for spam based on a set of rules, and passes it to your regular POP3 email program. In my opinion, since the introduction fo Bayesian filtering, a rules-based approach is now badly outdated.

Email remover
Email Remover can save you the trouble of downloading unwanted email. It connects to your ISP and retrieves mail header information (sender, subject, date, etc.), letting you pick mail you don't want to receive and deleting it from the mail server. It will optionally run your regular email client when it's done. Remember to note down the registration details from the web page!

MailWasher
Similar in principle to Email Remover, MailWasher checks the headers of waiting email and allows you to delete spam without downloading it, or to bounce it back so that your email address appears to be invalid.

Email Checking

Poppy
Poppy for Windows is a small application that will notify you when new mail is waiting on one of your POP3 e-mail accounts.
