OVER 200 people took part in a "Jesus March" held through the centre of Northampton on Saturday.

The march, intended to "bring Jesus to the man in the street," was organised by the Jesus Lives Crusade at Bugbrooke Chapel.

It was the beginning of a Jesus Weekend which includes an all-day Christian pop festival at Nether Heyford today.

The march which consisted mostly of young people, began at Midsummer Meadow and made its way through Cheyne Walk and York Road to the steps of All Saints' Church, where "Jesus songs" were performed and people testified to their faith.

Copies of "Jesus Reality" described as an underground Jesus magazine and edited by Pat Austin, were distributed before the march moved on to Hereward Wake House where a Rally was held in the evening.

The Rev. Noel Stanton. minister of Bugbrooke Chapel, said the effect of the march would be a long term one and it would take time before one could see if it had persuaded any members of the public to join the Crusade, but he thought there had been "a very fair response."
