ABOUT ONE in five deprived children cannot afford to invite a friend for a snack once a fortnight or to go swimming once a month, according to the first official survey of material deprivation.

The official breadline is measured at 60 per cent of the national average income.

The McDonald sandwich is said to be the world’s most expensive. Its cost is down to the Wagyu beef that makes up most of the filling.

“Between the beef and the foie gras with black truffle mayonnaise and some fine cheese, it’s a real delight,” said food and catering director Ewan Venters.

Others might think it’s too much to swallow.
