TWO YEARS ago, a couple of chaps knocked at Mary’s door and asked for some sarnies.
Then, Danny came - maybe he saw the mJa minibus in the drive – and he brought more and more friends, all needing something to eat.
Now they come every day. Sometimes whole families! One even walks for an hour to get there! Some are homeless, some live in squats.
“If we can,” says Mary “we pray for them. Gordon found the ‘voices’ in his head stopped after prayer. Stanley came, in tears. We talked and prayed, now he comes every week.
“We help in other ways, too, if we can. One lady rang up to say we were her son’s only friends; he’s got a serious drug addiction.
“Some people ask why we do this – well, they are all human beings and Jesus loves them.
“We’ve now started calling all these visitors ‘doorstep disciples’; we have a belief that they won’t stay ‘sandwich people’ for ever, but that the love of Jesus will bring change to their lives, just like He has to ours.”
