What excited me about my first Jesus Army march in London was the amount of life and dynamism we brought, as a church, to one of the busiest cities in England. I gained a rather unusual perspective of the parade as I hotly pursued one of the church photographers, holding her camera in one hand while hoisting her up lamp posts with the other, to aid her in her valiant attempts to take the best possible picture.
As a result we would race ahead of the march and wait for it to come along. As it rounded each corner, it was fantastic to see such energy and enthusiasm for God, a quality that seemed alien to the streets of London on a June Saturday morning.
There was a real atmosphere of love and acceptance, and also a sense that God was pleased with what we were doing as we walked along as a body that carried a spiritual authority and a real heart for the city.
I also enjoyed the thought that the Jesus Army were bringing parts of London to a standstill on a busy shopping day!
On our arrival at Trafalgar Square and during the afternoon festival I became aware of the fact that I was part of a living, thriving, uncompromising church that was all out for God. Say it loud and say it proud!
