God was one step ahead all the time!
In between cooking meals for 30 on the double-decker coach, praying for people and sharing Jesus on the streets, Jane Lutter, Len Kroon and Nick Vaughan kept this diary of the Jesus Army's Gospel Road Show in Brighton
Wednesday
Dave, the coach driver, arrived at Brighton's Palace Pier at 3pm with coach. Our small team worshipped and anointed the coach with oil. We've had a lot of prophetic words and inspirations via prayer times the week before the campaign. One word is that we will meet Muslims. Sure enough, Barbar from Afghanistan and Sophie from Indonesia - both Muslim friends of Jane's- ring up and arrange to meet us on the coach.
Another word is that we will meet two men called Nigel and Dave who will be open to God - we need to look after them well when they arrive.
Shirley and Laura come back from giving out leaflets with a new friend, Angelia, a Christian from USA. She comes back to the coach for friendship and, again, during the week. On Sunday evening she came to our evening meeting and said that she loved what she saw: the worship, brotherhood commitment and that God wanted her to belong to us while in England.
Ivanildo and Pilinio (Brazilian brothers who have come to Brighton because they felt God tell them to come and build the church for a period of ten years) also came on the coach and shared about belonging to the Jesus Army. This took place on Sunday night at out meeting. We layed hands on them and commissioned and anointed them. It was a very powerful moment.
Thursday
A bit wet and uninspiring but we press on.
Arun brought his friend Jason onto the bus. He had been in prison but was now homeless and had got into heroin big time. After hearing about Jesus and realising his need he asked for prayer. Nick and myself prayed for him and he received a powerful touch of God and he threw away his last bit of heroin.
As the week went by Jason continued to receive prayer and stayed off the drugs. Since then he has stayed with us at our community house in Seaford and is keeping drug-free and seeking
baptism.
We also remembered the word about meeting "Nigel and Dave". On the bus came Nigel who was suffering from leukemia - he was finding his way to being born again - we prayed for him. We then realised that there was already a new friend on the bus called Dave who had joined us several times for a meal and prayer - he was homeless. God certainly confirms His word!
Friday
Arrive in Brighton to be greeted by the traffic wardens with a 'no parking here' dictate. We've had a word about Shoreham (outskirts of Brighton) so we decide to go there until better parking is available. We arrived in Shoreham and parked in a bus stop as the High street was very narrow next to the harbour. Lots of people were open to receiving Jesus Army Streetpapers.
The sisters prepared a hot lunch cause it was freezing cold and just as we began to eat it the man from the shop came onto the coach to say - the local bus company had complaints from bus drivers and needed us to move ASAP. The shop was an information bureau for 16-25 years so we decided before leaving to go in and speak with them. They asked us who we were, thought that our church vision was great and wanted some leaflets to give away for us.
We leafletted the local housing estate and then returned to Brighton to claim our spot by the Palace Pier for the evening. Lots of new friends joined us for a meal and we also served a number of the homeless with our love and warmth and food.
Saturday
A really exciting day as all our congregational members from Hastings, Brighton and Eastbourne strengthened the team.
With our PA on the streets, we had some powerfully anointed singing and dancing out side the coach. It was in a prime spot outside the bus and attracted many passers by. Some joined in the dancing others took fliers and literature. This progressed into a street barbecue which was very attractive and drew people to us.
As the evening moved along Ursula asked to be baptised so we all went to share in the 'burial' celebration in the dark December sea about 7.30pm! Ursula received a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit and in spite of the cold, came out aglow.
We continued to party and the scene became very vibrant and buzzing with people being drawn to us right up until the coach left. New friends were receiving prayer and another friend of Arun's received prayer for deliverance.
