DRUGS KILLER CONFESSES
Chance encounter in a café leads to dramatic seaside baptism
Picture: Front page headlines in the Northampton Chronicle and Echo graphically describe Andrew Kerry's return to faith.
Andrew Kerry committed a drugs-related murder in Northampton which he finally confessed to Len Kroon, a leader in the Jesus Army in Brighton. Andrew is now serving a life sentence for the killing, but the story of his confession and baptism in the sea just hours before he was arrested made newspaper headlines.
The Jesus Army in Brighton became involved with Andrew after he met some of them in a café in the town. Andrew came to the Sunday meetings and found that his faith in God was reawakened as he mixed with people that he found genuinely cared about him.
Finally, Andrew knew that he had to confess to the police, and spoke to Len about the killing. Len helped Andrew contact the police, and in the few hours before they arrived to arrest Andrew, conducted his baptism in the sea.
Andrew's friends from the Jesus Army now regularly visit him in prison. They report that he continues in his faith and new attitude to life. He meets with other Christians in the prison to pray and worship.
Andrew is one of several 'lifers' who are members of the Jesus Fellowship. Many of them have found faith in Jesus and been baptised while serving their sentences.
