UNLOCKING
Anita's friend Dave took her to her first Jesus Army meeting. She wrote in her diary:
Saturday 15 Nov
"I was quite hard and defensive when we got there, as I wanted to find out, for myself, what this lot are like. I instantly liked Marygrace and Rachel and no one seemed to mind that I'd just appeared.
"The baptisms were good and I started to relax. It was quite noisy and Marygrace took me over to stand on some chairs for a better view. I don't know if that's reverent but it was fun!"
Sunday 16 Nov
"There were about 2000 people at this meeting. It lasted about three hours. I was still wondering what to make of this lot and asked Rachel and Marygrace lots of questions.
At the end people went forward for membership. Each one had to say something and then got prayed for. Dave went down like God decked him one! The worship was seriously going somewhere. The Holy Spirit turned up! I worshipped freer than I have for ages! A bloke came up and started praying for Dave and me. I got well and truly zapped - it was so excellent! WOW!! JESUS!!"
"I grew up in a Christian environment but in my teens I found if you were too happy it was labelled 'irreverent' and being sad (I felt) was considered 'not walking in Christian victory'. When I first came here I felt accepted as I was for whoever I was or tried to be. I was amazed, that in front of such a large group of people I was, and still am, free to be myself' whatever 'myself' was! "I've come a long way since then. Slowly, bit-by-bit, God's unlocking my potential and increasing my capacity.
I'm making more of myself than I ever thought I'd be able to."
