Stomach ulcers are no problem for God

"I'd had persistent problems with my stomach for 18 months," says Paul Githumbi, member of staff at the mission agency Diguna. "They were due to stomach ulcers; I couldn't eat anything spicy or drink anything sour. It was like a prison. At the end of last year, I suddenly had such an intense pain in my stomach that I could not continue work. I took tablets, but prayed to God about my pain. I pleaded with him to heal my stomach problems. I then felt an unusual power course through my body, something which I had never felt before. With tears in my eyes, I said 'Thank you, God!' over and over again. The pains in my stomach stopped, and since then, I have been able to eat whatever I like."

Russia

God's intervention makes amputation unnecessary

22-year-old Anton attended the second evening of an outreach in Perm with English evangelist David Hathaway. He had seen invitations on television in December 2002. Anton had been in hospital in May 2002 suffering from blood poisoning, fighting for his life, and doctors wanted to amputate his leg. His mother asked David Hathaway to go to the hospital to pray with him. Hathaway told him "Don't let them amputate your leg. You'll stand on stage with me in the next outreach in Perm, giving God the glory!" Anton believed Hathaway and refused the operation. A few days later, he could return home, healed. Six months later, after hearing of the new outreach, he was standing on stage sharing his experience.

Flowers for the enemy

"During Ceaucescu's reign, I was in a Romanian prison with thirty other prisoners," reports Richard Wurmbrand, founder of 'Voice of the Martyrs' and author of 'Tortured for Christ'. "One evening, a man was thrown into our cell. He had been beaten, shaved and was clothed in gray, as were we all. The next morning, we discovered to our astonishment that it was a Communist official who had personally interrogated many of us, and had ordered our torture. We were in a cell reserved for Christians, so asked, astonished 'Why are you here with us, in a cell for Christians?'. 'Because I have become a Christian!' he answered. 'One day, the door to my office opened, and a 12-year-old boy came in, holding a flower. 'Today is my mother's birthday. Every year, I gave her a flower because she liked them so much. But now she is dead, as is my father, because you sentenced them to death. Now I have no-one to give my present to. So I thought: please accept this flower from me, and give it to the mother of your children as a present.' That was too much for me, so I gave my life to Jesus Christ, who has such a love for us!'"

World's happiest woman is a cook!

Eva Franzisca Rebeira is, in her own words, the world's happiest woman! In the AVC newsletter Nehemia Info 1/2003, she says "I am 66 years old, and retired two years ago. I had already been living on the street for five years then, begging. I spent all the money I received on alcohol, and was almost permanently drunk. As a result, I became ill and could not walk. Then, two years ago, I met a Christian. She told me about Jesus, who could change my life. She took me to a soup kitchen. Three months later, I was saved and baptised, and have regularly attended a Christian church since then. Today, I work as a cook in a soup kitchen, and I want to work here as long as I live. I can even donate 10% of my pension to mission work. Every Saturday and Sunday, I share my experiences with people on the street, and invite them to church."
