"Rain go away - in Jesus' name!"

Around 300 children camped on the 'prayer mountain' in Lüdenscheid, Germany in Summer 2002 for the 2nd National Children's Prayer Day. "The events were held in the open, so the gathering dark clouds were a challenge. As it started to rain, organiser Tobias Stosch encouraged the children to pray. The united 'Rain go away - in Jesus' name!' put an end to the rain and all doubts about God's power. Excitement about our heavenly Father lay in the air, we saw physical healings, new callings, encounters with God and had a lot of fun," reports Anke Kirschbaum.

Do children hear God better?

Jesus once told his disciples that the Kingdom of God belongs to the children. "In our children's ministry, it is particularly the 8- to 12-year-olds who have special supernatural experiences," says FCJG Lüdenscheid's Ulrike Tetzlaff. "When we go to pray on the prayer mountain on Saturdays, they sometimes see things in the Spirit which are described in the Bible, but which they have never read. For example, they have describe the golden Jerusalem, the jewels, the clear river and God's throne room. They sometimes have prophetic impulses to pray for people in other parts of the earth, and they prophesy freely. God's presence can become so strong that we can hardly remain standing," she says. "These things help a deep love for Jesus to grow, a familiarity with the Holy Spirit, and the desire to pray more. Could it be that children hear God better because they have such a pure spirit?"

No more electricity - a new church is born

"'The power failed again - in the room where we met, you could only hear the voices of the 12 people present,' Fausi, one of our village staff told us," reports Swiss mission agency 'Ziel 19'. "Should we cancel the Bible reading which everyone had been looking forward to? One of the men said 'We can go to my house, but it's a little cramped, and we'll have to sing quieter because of the neighbours.' It was a special evening. God touched us stronger than on other occasions, and the atmosphere was warmer and more personal than in the church hall. Others also suggested that we could meet in their homes. From then on, we met in a different home each week. Interestingly, in some houses, youths joined us who had never been in the church. Neighbours noticed the meetings, and spontaneously asked for prayer. One neighbour called out 'Look, the church is breaking out of its walls!' Within only six weeks, we had six new members in our 'roving meetings', and another six who joined us occasionally. That was the start of a house church which continued after the problems with the electricity in the church hall had been solved."

'No weapon will succeed'

The gifted village preacher G. was again travelling, preaching the Gospel. Fourteen people had given their lives to Jesus that night. An aggressive-looking man came in, beating a path through the group with a staff, and stopped in front of the evangelist. He held a gun in his other hand, which he pointed at the evangelist, obviously wanting to shoot him. The evangelist closed his eyes, saying goodbye to this world - but nothing happened. The gun had failed! The man turned around angrily and left the way he came. The group of new believers had another reason to thank their new-found Lord.

Mentally ill mother healed by prayer

A church-planting team in Uttar Pradesh, India, arrived in the village Sitapur. Some of the people who had already experienced God's healing power asked the team to pray for Sukh Rani, a 32-year-old mother of two who had lost her mind three months previously. Her husband had died three years before, and everything had gone downhill since then. For 24 days, she had only eaten grass, and drank almost nothing. "As we saw her, our courage left us. But Monica, one member of the team, sat on the woman's bed and prayed. Suddenly, Sukh Rani sat up and began to speak and act normally. Monica told her about Jesus, telling her that Jesus loved her even more than her husband or relatives. Sukh Rani smiled and started eating normally again. The villagers who had seen what happened all said 'Jesus is truly a living God!'"
