50,043,868 hours of prayer for the Buddhist world

A new prayer initiative calls on Christians around the world to pray for a total of one billion hours for Buddhists. "God loves alle Buddhists," says the initiative, supported by major Evangelical intercessor movements. The aim of the intercession is "a true spiritual enlightenment and the salvation of many Buddhists, for a full revelation of the Creator God and his love for them, and for peace in the Buddhist nations. If 20 million Christians pray for Buddhists only 1 hour each week - 10 minutes each day - then we will reach one billion hours of prayer after only one year." The call is addressed not only to individual Christians, but also to house groups and whole churches. So far, people have committed to over 50 million hours of prayer.

Healed of meningitis during the Jesus Film

'India Campus for Christ' reports that one of their film teams showed the Jesus Film in Ahmednagar, western India, at the end of 2001. Among the viewers was Nandabai, who had been suffering from a form of Meningitis for three years. She watched intently, but was astonished that God touched her during the scene in which Jesus raises Jairus' daughter from the dead. She sensed that something had happened, and started thanking God. After the film, she told the film crew what she had experienced, and went to her doctor for tests. As she had already started to believe, all the tests were negative: all signs of the illness had vanished. Nandabai decided to accept Jesus as her Lord, and she and her family are now members of a local Christian church.

More unity between Charismatics and Pentecostals?

During a recent private meeting, leading representatives of important Pentecostal and Charismatic movements in the USA agreed to cooperate more closely, according to Charisma News' Andy Butcher. Around 30 leaders of "Word of Faith", Charismatic and traditional and modern Pentecostal movements met for three days in a hotel in Washington for prayer and discussions about increasing unity. One of the participants, Vinson Synan, a leading Pentecostal church historian, called the meeting 'unique'. Billy Joe Daugherty, pastor of the Victory Christian Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, welcomed the meeting because it had helped increase the mutual respect between Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians. "Christians cooperate when they know and trust each other. We have met and built trust - there will be no limit to what God can do when we unite."

Russia

Bashkirs and Tatars no longer unreached

The Bashkirs and Tatars, Islamic people groups in the Russian Ural region, were considered unreached by the Gospel only a few years ago; there were no indigenous Christian churches. "In the past 6 years, we planted two missions schools with local partners," reports Swiss missions agency Kingdom Ministries. "The schools train church planting teams, which have been able to plant over 50 new churches. At the end of last year, the Tatar New Testament was published." The movement aims for 100 self-replicating churches by 2003.


Dad, take me to church!

Natascha, a woman from the region who used to practise occultism, repented and regularly attended a Christian church. Her husband Igor wanted to know nothing about Jesus, and always remained at home with their child when she went to church. One day, the child started crying and wanted its mother. Igor was forced to take it to the church, where God touched him. He accepted Jesus into his life, and the whole family now attends the church.

Pakistan

Like a dream

Salem, who had been unable to speak as a small child and had been called 'stupid', was completely healed through prayer. He now coordinates church planting projects in Pakistan. In a recent dream, he saw a man inviting him into his house. After a conversation, the whole family came to Christ, and a new church was planted. Some days later, Salem helped a house church with a missionary outreach, and met the man who he had seen in his dream. Everything happened exactly as he had dreamed.
