Germany

Wehingen - Germany's most Christian village?

When Wayne and Irene Negrini arrived in Germany, they started a home group. Three years later, they moved with 9 others to Wehingen near Mettlach, which then had 350 inhabitants, now 409. They opened their house, prayed with visitors and experienced healings and deliverances, took people into their home and started sharing their lives with each other. Wehingen now has 150 evangelical Christians - over 35% of the population. The "Church without Walls" trained a number of groups to form communities in which Christians live and train together for 1 to 3 years. Now, around 250 people attend the church services held in an old school house. "This is a Catholic area. Initially, we had problems all the way up to the sect police," says pastoral assistant Ronja Harnisch, "but when people realised that we are just harmless Christians, the problems went away. The villagers are increasingly open." The "Church without Walls" also organises missionary outreaches: "In one Ukrainian village, we started a large bakery, and saw the village transformed by the Gospel," says Harnisch.

Healed of cancer

People are often healed in the "Church without Walls". One of the current staff used to be a prostitute in Amsterdam, and contracted cancer. She not only found Christ, but was healed of her cancer. An ex-alcoholic suffering from neurodermitis and cancer was also healed and freed from her addiction. Today, she is a counsellor in the church.

India

Breakfast for the first time in 7 years

Indian evangelist Rajkumar reports from Dehedu in Punjab's Ludhiana district: "Jaswant Kumar comes from Uttar Pradesh. He had been suffering from a serious stomach illness for seven years; after eating, he experienced serious problems. All medicines failed, and his condition became progressively worse. To start with, he could not eat an evening meal, then no lunch, and finally had to stop eating breakfast because of his stomach pains. He managed to survive on liquid food. When we met, I explained the Gospel to him; he had been an idol-worshipper all his life, and had many idols at home. Finally, we prayed together. The next morning, Jaswant came to my house, shouting excitedly that he was healed! 'For the first time in seven years, I've been able to eat breakfast in peace!' He asked what Jesus would want in exchange for his healing. I told him 'Jesus wants your heart!' He understood, and decided to follow Jesus."

Bulgaria

Outreach to poorest part of Europe plants 30 churches

At the start of 2001, Bulgarian pastor Pawel Ignatov decided to plant new churches in north-western Bulgaria. "The Lom region in the poorest area in Europe, and still with strong Communist influences," writes English evangelist David Hathaway. Through evangelisation in Montana, Berkowitz Vidin, Knezha, Byala, Slatina and many other places, 30 Christian churches could be planted. During an outreach in Lom, hundreds were saved, and a number were physically healed. Five people reported of healed tumours, and one woman was healed of Kreuzfeld-Jakob disease, for which there is no known cure. The outreached doubled the size of the local church in Lom.

Revival among Gypsies and reduced crime rate

Around one third of the population attended an outreach with David Hathaway in Samokov, which now has the largest Gypsy church in the Balkans, with around 1,500 members. According to Hathaway's report, the crime rate in Samokov sank by around a third. The town offered the church building ground because of the many visitors.

Ukraine

Christians guard market stands

As result of an outreach with Hathaway in 1994, a new church now numbering 1,000 members was planted in Nokolayev in the Ukraine. 7,000 attended an outreach in the local stadium in Autumn 2001. The stadium was surrounded by market stands, and the traders could hear the Gospel. A large number of them decided to follow Christ; the church had organised Christians as guards for the stands so that the traders could go into the stadium for prayer.
