Two raised from the dead

Axel Fischer, leader of the mission agency 'HELP' in Ulaanbaatar, reports: "In the past two months, we have heard of two people being raised from the dead through prayer. In both cases, the person had died in hospital, and their death and resurrection were confirmed by doctors. Naraa, a Mongolian Christian who we have known for years, reports: 'One night, the desperate relatives of a man who had recently died asked us to come to the hospital. There are no doctors in our area, so we are often called on to pray for the sick. God has healed many people. I know that my God performs miracles, so I went to pray for the dead man, who was already cold when I arrived. After five minutes of prayer, he opened his eyes. His resurrection was the talk of the village. All the relatives gave their lives to Christ on the spot.' Badulzi, a pastor and close friend, told us the following: 'A young girl in our church died, but her Christian friends didn't want to accept her death. They believed that God could do wonders, so they prayed and praised God at her bedside for ten hours, until she returned to life. The doctors and other witnesses were astonished and could hardly comprehend that Jesus is also Lord over life and death.'"

Holy desperation in Houston

"Friends, I'd like to share something personal with you," said Jim Herrington, who gave up a leading position in the Union Baptist Association three years ago to work for the transformation of Houston, Texas. The city recently experienced one of the greatest floods in its history. "I have always believed that cities can be changed if enough churches and pastors experience a holy desperation and seek God's face. Today, the Ugandan pastor Jackson Senjonga spoke about the transformation in his nation. In the middle of his simple speech, he said 'In America, the shouts of sin are louder than the cry of intercession.' That cut deep into my heart, because it is true. The truth is, we're all concerned, but not desperate. God wants to change that."

Macedonia

Christian bodyguard cares for wounded policeman

Tadeusz Jarcev, personal bodyguard of the Macedonian President and Christian, has a vision: "Who takes care of Macedonia's wounded policemen and soldiers? God showed me that we Christians must take care of them and show them God's love. But the doors were closed. In 1999, I was fired from a special police unit for distributing Bibles and explaining the Gospel to people. However, we received an invitation from the new head of the special unit, and were able to distribute aid and Bibles, and pray for the policemen in the center of the garrison. I had hoped to be able to visit the wounded policemen at home and help them physically and spiritually, because when they leave hospital, nobody cares for them. The new commander has now encouraged us to do exactly that. Macedonia is going through difficult times, but God will give us wisdom and open doors."

Myanmar

Setback for 're-conversions'

National missionaries have led many members of tribes such as the Chin and Mukri to believe in Christ, so the government organised so-called 're-conversion campaigns'. The government views Buddhism as the national culture, and often uses the military to forcefully re-convert Christians to Buddhism, sometimes even putting a price on their heads. Mission director Mati Joseph reports from Nagaland that a police officer in West Myanmar died in his sleep the night after agreeing such a campaign with the local government. The following day, visitors came to pay their last respects, and experienced an amazing phenomenon: the reflection of Jesus in a mirror in the entrance hall. When they went closer to investigate, they saw only their own reflection. Everyone who entered the house saw the reflection, according to the report. That caused great fear amongst the non-Christians, who realised that if Jesus is the true God, then they dare not persecute his followers. That in turn encouraged the Christians to evangelise, and many people have decided to follow Jesus.
