Stones turn to dust

"Rahmad (name changed) is an almost 70-year-old Egyptian Christian who likes to travel to remote villages to preach the gospel to the villagers in his own simple way," reports Swiss mission leader Andrea Xandry. His simple way of speaking often speaks directly to the people's hearts, and whole families are saved when he visits. He was recently in a village on the banks of the Nile, where he could preach to 15 families. Twelve men and seven women were saved. "On the way home, some bearded men approached me, obviously religious fanatics. I was suspicious, and wanted to avoid them, but they had already started throwing stones and small rocks at me," says Rahmad. "I was unprotected, and saw my end coming. As the first stones hit my body, I was surprised that it did not hurt! Then I saw why: the stones turned to dust as they hit me! I thanked God out loud. My attackers soon realised that a miracle was happening before their very eyes, and fled, afraid. I then returned to the village, where I could continue working for our Lord, undisturbed."

Brazil

Indians pray for the nations

"One of my dreams is coming true," reports pastor and intercession leader Amaury Braga. "There is an identifiable prayer movement forming amid the Brazilian Indians". In October this year, a prayer movement will start among the Terenas Indians, which will pray for churches to be planted among the Indians themselves, but also for general missionary topics in Brazil and the nations. According to Vice-Cacique Cirenio, there are around 40,000 Terenese Indians, of which eighty percent are born-again Christians. Twenty of them are prepared to travel to one of Brazil's 90 unreached Indian tribes as missionaries - or to one of the 300 unreached Indian tribes in Latin America. They only need a little financial support.

Northern India

'Gunda' finds Jesus

"Charan Dass was the chairman of a local political party in Northern India, and chief of a 'Gunda Gang' ('Gunda' means 'antisocial element'). He was an enemy of the gospel," reports the mission agency Operation Agape. "But Dass was ill, and had been suffering for three years. He had already spent a large sum of money for treatment, and even sacrificed 25 sheep to various idols, but his condition worsened until he was finally near death. His sister Geeta had been healed of tuberculosis by prayer to Jesus some time previously. When she visited him and prayed for him, he was completely healed, to the astonishment of everyone involved. There have been three meetings in his house in the last two months, at which over fifty people have heard the gospel. Many have entrusted their lives to Jesus, and most have removed all the magic artefacts from their houses. Twelve of Charan Dass's relations have decided to become Christians."

Indonesia

Healing by radio

"The life of a man in Bandung (West Java), who had been suffering from a severe illness in his lungs has been permanently changed. He had actually been expecting to die in a few days, when he was suddenly healed in front of his radio," reports Suzette Hattingh, who had visited almost completely Muslim Bandung during the summer to evangelise. "It is astonishing to see 5,000 people cramming into a room to hear the gospel in such a place, or listening to radio sermons," reports one witness. "Some sat in their cars listening to the sermons via radio, then stubbed out their cigarettes, lifted their arms and prayed. Others cried openly." Up to 50,000 people attended the evangelistic events in Manado. Many people were healed, such as one person whose crippled hand was restored, and a woman who was healed of breast cancer while listening to the radio. According to one of Hattingh's reports, several doctors were able to immediately confirm the miracles which some of their patients experienced.

Belarus

Cleaning lady converts the professor

Victor Nemtsev was a university professor and director of the research department of a large electronics company in Minsk. It was a simple cleaning lady who showed him the way to Christ. "She always tried to speak with the people in the office, but I declined to speak with her," he says. "It annoyed me that some people paid more attention to her than to me - she was just a cleaning lady, and I was a successful and educated man!" But Victor's arrogance was his downfall. "One day, I heard her discussing Christianity with some of my colleagues, and tried to help her, because I thought she was running out of arguments. She mistakenly took me for a Christian, and gave me a New Testament, which I started to read. I discovered that Christianity is not a simple religion for uneducated people. I asked the woman whether she knew other Christians with whom I could speak about the Bible. She organised a meeting, and I became a Christian in that group." Soon after Victor became a Christian, he and another Christian started a church which mainly reaches better-educated people. Only one year after they started, they had 118 visitors, and Victor Nemtsev now leads the Bible League in his nation.
