"Whenever the young woman passed a particular tree on her
way into the village, she heard a strange whistling. Thinking it to be a
youngsters' prank, she paid no attention and went on her way. One day,
though, she became curious, and looked behind the tree. A large snake
immediately jumped at her and wrapped itself around her. She shouted for
help, and a large crowd quickly gathered. They called the local witch
doctors. By the evening, some 250 shamans had joined the village's 1,000
inhabitants at the scene. They tried all sorts of magic, but nothing
helped. One couple in the crowd remembered that they had been cured of
their infertility when a Christian had prayed for them in Jesus' name, so
they went to look for the Christians, who lived in the next village, 5
miles away. When the Christians arrived at the scene the next morning, the
young woman still lay on the ground, exhausted. Some foresters had also
arrived with guns, but could not shoot, because they would have wounded
the young woman. Everyone was excited when the 'Jesus people' arrived, and
they knew that the woman would be saved. The Christians began to pray, and
the snake finally released the woman and vanished into the bush again. The
shamans had seen their inability, and everyone knew that it was the prayer
in Jesus' name which had saved the woman from the deadly snake. As a
result, 5 house churches were started in this and the surrounding
villages."
