Winning 40 million people in 2 months?

A number of house church movements in China have declared a 'missionary month': from December 1, 1999 until January 31, 2000, many Chinese Christians have the aim of winning three others for Christ. Every house church leader is expected to win at least 5 people for Christ in the same period. Because the event is not being run separately from the churches, observers believe that it is reasonable to expect 40 million people to be won for Christ over the change of the millennium. Chinese Christians have called on Christians in other nations to pray with them in their aim.

Acts 28 in Tibetan jail

When Chen-Xu (name changed) was sent to a Tibetan labour camp, he was aware that he may only have a short time left to live. Chinese prisoners, particularly Christians, are the subject of much hate in these camps. However, the overseer was a Buddhist who promised Christians safety. One day, a Moslem prisoner grabbed Chen and threatened him, saying "Your protector will die soon, and you won't live much longer than he." Every prisoner knew that the overseer was suffering from incurable cancer, and had only 3 months left to live. Chen, though, had a plan: from memory, he wrote the report in Acts 28 of Paul praying for a sick man. His only writing tools were his own blood on a roll of toilet paper, which he then gave to the overseer. A few days later, he was called into the overseer's office. "Does Paul's God still heal today?" the overseer asked. Chen said that he did, and offered to pray for the overseer. One week later, Chen was again called into the overseer's office, and found him completely healed. All the inmates heard that the God of the Christians had healed the man, and many of them decided to follow Christ. Chen-Xiu is sure that God sent him to the camp.

Global Evangelical Netzwerk formed: Great Commission Global Round Table

The leaders of three international Evangelical movements have decided to form a global Evangelical network, according to a WEF press release on November 10, 1999. The 'global round table' was formed following meetings between representatives of the World Evangelical Fellowship (WEF), the Lausanne Movement and the "AD2000 and Beyond" movement in Norway and Dallas, USA. The aim of the Global Round Table, which is open to other networks and movements, is to encourage missionary and evangelistic processes, listening to God's voice, serving other Christians and assisting them in cooperating according to their strenghts. The coordinators for the next two years are Bertil Ekstrom (Brazil), Chairman; Iman Santoso (Indonesia), Vice Chairman; John Robb (USA), International Coordinator. Other members are Ramez Atallah (LCWE, Egpyt), Ross Campbell (AD2000, New Zealand), Met Castillo (WEF-Asia Missions Commission, Philippines), Paul Cedar (LCWE, USA), Robyn Claydon (LCWE, Australia), Tormod Engelsviken (LCWE, Norway), Reuben Ezemadu (AD2000, Nigeria), Wolfgang Fernandez (DAWN, Venezuela), Peter Holzmann (AD2000, USA), Judy Mbugua (AD2000, Kenya), Patrick McDonald (Viva Network, UK), Evgeniy Naydenov (Hope for Balkans, Bulgaria), Brian O'Connell (Interdev, USA), Cindy Perry (Himalayan AD2000, Nepal), K. India

A church within walking distance of every person in Punjab!

In Punjab state in Northern India, church planting is progressing rapidly due to the strategic cooperation of local Christians. In 1998, 220 of 490 PIN-codes (Postal/Zip Code areas) were without any known Christian church; today, that has fallen to only 100. The movement's coordinators (name and address withheld for security reasons) expect that church planting initiatives will exist in every PIN-code area within three months. 68 new house churches were started in Punjab during September 1999 alone. The aim is to have a Christian church within walking distance of every person in Punjab in the forseeable future.
