Opening heart chakras

"My heart chakra has opened," said a happily smiling woman at the end of the penultimate seminar. She had taken part in a week-long seminar "Jesus of Nazareth in the modern esoteric" held by previous Salvation Army member and pastor Daniel Hari, who reports that people involved in the esoteric scene had come to believe in Jesus in each of the four 5-evening courses which he has held so far. Many of the people who became Christians in his courses subsequently attended an Alpha course. It all started in Lucerne's railway station restaurant, where Hari held seminars on topics such as 'Jesus as spiritual master and healer', 'Experiencing rebirth and its effects', and 'Experiencing Christ's healing power yourself'. Responses to adverts for his courses in esoteric magazines came via post and telephone. 32 people, only 6 of them Christians, attended the first course. "On the second evening, I openly declared my conviction that Jesus of Nazareth is alive and present with us during the course, with the same power as he had 2000 years ago," says Hari. "We can allow him to work as he choses, and should not be surprised if he heals people, calls people to follow him or sets people free."

Chain reaction after a Kosovo-Albanian is healed

"Jesus instantly healed a Kosovo-Albanian suffering from a liver disease. His brother, who claimed to be a spirit healer, and a cousin were saved that evening. There was a chain reaction of Albanians turning to Christ. In only a short time, 15 men, women and children came to believe," says Hari. "People from the esoteric scene actively seek a purpose in life and supernatural experience of God. They tend to be well-read and like to attend courses for which they are prepared to pay handsomely. Let's offer them this alternative!" On 30 October 1999, a course will be held in Lucerne railway station restaurant's conference room, teaching how people interested in the esoteric can be led to Christ.

Pastor healed of eye disease

Pastor Jacobs had been suffering intense pain since 1992. X-rays taken in a Kuala Lumpur hospital revealed that three of his cervical vertebra (C3, C4 and C7) were suffering from an infection which causes swelling. Eighteen months later, a further examination revealed that his retina was degenerating, and that he would be blind in 5 to 8 years. "My sight degenerated rapidly," he writes. "In 1996, I could only see a little with my right eye, and was having problems with my left eye too. In 1998, I visited a specialist in Singapore; she told me that I was suffering from 'Bilateral Bull's Eye Macular Degeneration', for which there is no cure." Pastor Jacobs attended a conference with intercessor Suzette Hattingh from 22-24 July 1999. The journey to the conference in Johor Bahruan, 200 miles from his hometown, was difficult: the engine of his car overheated repeatedly, but a mechanic could find no problem. At the conference, he received prayer: "I saw a bright light shining into my eyes, and when I turned around, it was 10:40 on 24th July 1999: I could read the clock over 20 yards away! I thank God for this encouragement, and that I could experience his blessing and healing."

China

God is lord of the belt

A Chinese man became a Christian because God prevented him beating his wife. He was angry when his wife returned late from a Christian gathering one day, and began to beat her with his belt, screaming that he would only stop when his belt broke in two. "Strangely, the belt broke right then...", he wrote to the Christian radio station FEBC. "My wife didn't hold it against me, but simply remained quiet. I was ashamed and unable to sleep, so eventually woke my wife and asked her to forgive me. I thought that God would most likely not accept such an evil person as me, but my wife told me that God loved me and would save all those who believed in him. I confessed my sins and prayed with my wife."

Lithuania

From drunkard to evangelist

"Eligius Duzinskis was a trouble maker," writes Swabian theologian Christoph Haegele, now working for the German Mission Society in Lithuania. "He regularly started fights and mugged people. One day, he was so drunk that others beat him up and left him lying on the railway tracks; a train drove over his leg, which then had to be amputated. Following his release from hospital, a neighbor saw how Eligius' artificial leg collapsed and he was run over by a car, breaking his other leg, which had to be put in plaster. Eligius then began to look for a new life, but did not know where. A Christian neighbor talked with him and gave him a Bible. Some time later, he visited a church service in Siaulia, where he decided to become a Christian. Today, he ministers to the disabled, bringing them clothes and Christian books, tries to find wheelchairs for them, preaches, is part of a church leadership and speaks about Jesus wherever he goes."
