Shaking the Queen's throne

"Over 50 million intercessors have prayed towards the aim of 'a church for every people group and the gospel for every person by the year 2000'", says Professor Peter Wagner, leader of the AD2000 and Beyond movement's United Prayer Track and president of Global Harvest Ministries (Colorado Springs, USA). He continues by saying that the cooperation between strategic intercessors and 'God's groundcrew' - mission agencies, church-planting and evangelistic movements - is very important, and that one of the key concepts of today's intercession movements is the reality of the presence of demonic forces and their role in blinding large sections of humanity to the truth of the gospel. He identifies a particularly influential demon which calls itself 'The Queen of Heaven' and operates directly under Satan's orders.

Operation Ice Castle

In a previously secret 'Operation Ice Castle', a team of intercessors led by Doris Wagner and Mexico's Ana Mendez travelled to the Mt. Everest region of the Himalayas, to carry out a direct prayer attack against one of the "Queen of Heaven's" presumed homes. The locals call Mt. Everest 'Sagarmata', which means 'Mother of the Universe'.

The Moon Goddess in Ephesus

Wagner identifies the key power behind Islam as the Moon Goddess, "one of the Queen of Heaven's most flexible and adaptable identities. That is why we see her symbol, the waxing half moon, on all mosques and on the flags of many Islamic nations. Another strong hypothesis from our research is that the Queen of Heaven's centre of geographical operations lies in Turkey, in the old Ephesus", he says.

"Love Turkey"

In the last week of September 1999, hundreds or more intercessors will visit Turkey as part of the 'Love Turkey' event. The 'Sentinel Group', led by George Otis Jr., will oversee a national spiritual mapping project. In the past, the Ephesians shouted 'Great is Diana of Ephesus!' for two hours in the city's beautiful amphitheater (Acts 19:34). Wagner says "Intercessors will proclaim 'Great is Jesus of Nazareth!' there for four hours, followed by the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's 'Messiah' sung by a 100-person choir from the Kwang Lim Methodist Church led by Seoul's bishop Sundo Kim."

Africa: Moslems see visions, house churches started

Karel Sanders, South African church growth specialist, reports that many African Moslems are currently turning to Christ: "42% of the new believers come to Christ through visions, dreams, angelic appearances and hearing God's voice. 48% become Christians as the result of the work of home cells. During our last visit to Tanzania, a Lutheran pastor told us that he had baptised 44 ex-Moslems in the previous 3 months. Members of the Anglican church, the 'Evangelical Church' and the Assemblies of God recently started 11 home cells in Zanzibar, which is officially 98.7% Islamic."

A web site for every church by the year 2000?

The 'Houses of Worship' (HOW) project started in 1996, with the aim of providing a free homepage on the world wide web to every church in the world, of which there are 2 million, according to estimates made by the American Bible Society. The basic concept is that each church can publish up to four pages of information about its activities, with the plan being to first reach the 330,000 churches in North America, and then expand around the world. The American Bible Society has provided HOW with US$5 million in funding, and sees the project as a good way to bring the Bible to the world population. Participation in the project is free for all churches; all that they need is an internet service provider and someone to prepare the pages. HOW is on the internet at www.housesofworship.net .

The project is housed in a cellar near the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, and has a staff of around 20. "In an increasingly networked world, web sites will play an important role in making people aware of Christ, Christianity and the gospel. However, a large part of the world is still not linked up, so any effort to reach those non-networked parts will include the Internet, but not be based on it", says Todd Johnson, editor of the World Christian Encyclopedia.
