Iran/India: Unusual visa application

Mustafa is a Christian Iranian, and is currently studying in India. He is married to Andrea, an Indian woman. As his visa expired, he went several times to renew it, but the officials just made him wait and told him to come back another time. Finally, he took Andrea with him, to prove that he really was married to an Indian woman. That didn't help either, because the official told him that "the marriage certificate has vanished from your file." He told Mustafa to return to Iran and apply for another visa from there, and even wrote a letter to the university telling them to nullify Mustafa's enrolment. The official was simply obstructive, and Mustafa decided that it was time to leave. "As I stood up," he says, "God gave me a prophetic word. I asked the official whether he had a 3-year-old grandson who needed prayer. He was astonished, and told me that his twin brother had an almost 3-year-old grandson who was in definite need of prayer. His whole attitude changed, and he allowed us to pray for the boy. As we were on the way out, he called us back, and started speaking more politely with us. He told Andrea that she looked very similar to his daughter, then told me to throw away the letter to the university and come back the next day with my copy of our marriage certificate, where he would grant him a 5-year visa."

Cambodia: lame man healed

Hin Savout had been lame and confined to his bed for 5 years. His son had to feed him, because his wife had given up hope and left, deserting him and his three children. A team from the Switzerland-based "Cambodian Mission", led by pastor Ung Kean, visited Hin and prayed with him. God touched him, and he could start to work again in the fields. He can only carry small amounts of water for his plants at the moment, but he excitedly tells his neighbours "There is only one God who can heal: Jesus Christ."

England: like Pentecost - fresh wind in the church

On Thursday, 11 December 1997, something special happened in the North Plymouth Community Church: during an evening service, just after the congregation had sung "Shout to the Lord", the church was filled with a supernatural sound like a wind. One witness made the following report: "I have experienced many storms and high winds, living here on the south coast of England, but nothing could compare to what I experienced that Thursday evening. It was 10 o'clock in the evening, and we had just finished singing when this enormous wind sound started. I could only throw myself to the ground and crawl from the stage, because I felt so unworthy in God's tangible presence. I switched off the overhead projector and heater, leaving only the sound of the wind. For the next 15 minutes, the church was filled with the sound of a storm, but there was not even a breeze to be felt. We all realised that it was no natural phenomenon. 'Like on the beach on a stormy day,' someone else described it. It reminded me of Acts 2, when the church heard 'the sound of a mighty wind filling the whole house.' After 15 minutes, the sound of the wind died down, completely disappearing within 10 seconds. Literally everyone present wanted to commit their life again to God and serve him with all their strength, so that he can complete his aims in this world. When I returned home that evening to my wife, who had been looking after our son, I asked her if she had noticed any wind. She told me that it had been a particularly still evening, and wanted to know why I asked."

Dubai: healed of goitre

"Six months ago, I was diagnosed as suffering multi-nodal goitre (an enlargement of the thyroid gland). The illness' effects on my life were devastating: I had a distinctly visible lump in my throat, my skin became thick and leathery, and breathing became difficult," writes Veronica from Dubai. "Sam, my husband, began to fast, because he believed that God could heal me without an operation. One day, he convinced me to go with him to a Christian service. During the meeting, my condition worsened: my muscles ached, my eyes swollen, and I had no faith. The preacher, Neil, asked thowhich I did. With tears running down my cheeks, I raised one hand to the swelling in my neck, but then had to check again, because I could not find the swelling. I touched the area gently, then pressed increasingly firmly, but the swelling had vanished. I sat down for a moment, tearful and shaking with awe, then stood to thank God for this miracle. The goitre has not returned since then."
