Algeria: Holy Spirit in the desert

There are numerous reports that many of the Berbers living in the Algerian Atlas Mountains are coming to Christ through dreams, visions and God's word and are forming - mostly underground - cell-churches. Ahmed Ait Ben Youcef, a native Berber now living abroad, tells he found Christ in a way which seems typical for previously Islamic Berbers:

"We Berbers always believed in God, but many seek their own way under the pressure of the Islamic Arabs. We young people yearned for the right way for our lives and prayed to God for guidance. One of my friends died in a traffic accident. The following night, I dreamed that he, I and another friend drove to a bright gleaming city surrounded by a white wall. My friend told us that he now lived there.

"The Jesus film was once shown in our village. As I saw how Jesus was crucified, I could feel the blows and pain in my own body. After being enlisted for the army, I had once to keep watch in the desert with a colleague. Suddenly a white bird flew by and hovered over us, as though watching us. Neither of us had ever seen anything like it. Later, in Thun (in Switzerland), I saw the same bird in a picture in a Christian bookshop - it was the Holy Spirit. And once when I saw a video about the heavenly Jerusalem, I was amazed to recognise the city which I saw in my dream about my dead friend!"

Ahmed is now a Christian.

A Sheikh prophesies over the Middle East

We have received word of the prayer of an officially still Islamic Sheikh:

"I pray that Christianity gains more and more influence in this region and the whole Middle East. We need more people who live among us and show us Christ. Our people must know who Jesus was, and what real Christianity is. A time is coming when it will be very powerful. Pray for it and expect it. Be patient; the time is certainly coming."

USA: healed of pancreatic cancer

During a three-day conference with Randy Clark in the Evangel Life Christian Center, Kentucky's largest Assemblies of God church, Tony, a 22-year-old male nurse, received prayer. He had been diagnosed as suffering from Pancreatic cancer in January 1995 and was receiving chemotherapy, which had caused much of his hair to fall out, and he had lost much weight. Further tests had shown that the cancer had not been healed, and the prognosis was discouraging. Tony received prayer several times during the conference. Randy Clark visited the church again on 17th September 1995 and witnessed Tony's baptism: after the conference, Tony returned to the doctors for intensive tests, which showed that the cancer had been healed. Tony is now preparing for a full-time ministry.

USA: 4-year-old girl healed of bone cancer

According to a report from the Vineyard Christian Fellowship's Mike Nardi, a 4-year-old girl has been healed of bone cancer. People in need of healing were prayed for during a Sunday service in Pasadena's Mott Auditorium in May 1995. Among them was the 4-year-old daughter of an ex-drug addict, who had suffered from AIDS and bone cancer since birth. On top of that, she was also deaf.

In May 1995, the T-cell count (white cells) of her blood was 175; less than 500 is life-threatening. The parents brought the child from Lake Arrowhead just to visit this blessing service. A few children from the youth group felt that they should pray for the girl, and did so for more than two hours.

In the next few days, the girl was so much better that her mother stopped the very strong medicines (not normally to be recommended!). The result of the doctor's test the following week was much-improved, and he said that she should continue with the treatment because the effect was so good. The mother could not bring herself to tell him of the new 'treatment'. Since that time, her T-cell count has risen to an above-average 1,300, and the doctor has declared her as cancer-free. She is still deaf, but the church sees this as a challenge to keep praying.
